Introducing Oakland Park Chiropractor Dr. Brad Gerhard

I wish I knew then what I know now...

While enrolled as a pre-med student at Penn State University, I had the unique opportunity to spend a day with a surgeon. My sister was a nurse at a hospital in Pittsburgh and arranged for me to observe a total of three operations. Afterwards, I discussed the health care field with the doctor and to my amazement he told me he was sending his son to chiropractic college and discouraged me from enrolling in medical school!

Oakland Park, Florida Chiropractor, Dr. Brad Gerhard

After earning my Bachelor of Science degree from Penn State, I went on to Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, where I graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1990.During my four years at Palmer, courses included biochemistry, a major emphasis on anatomy and human physiology, X-ray, diagnosis, chiropractic adjusting techniques and patient care in the Palmer College Public Clinic. After graduating from Palmer, I worked for 2 different Doctors in North Carolina before moving to Fort Lauderdale in 2003.

“We love skeptics,” smiles Dr. Gerhard. “I still remember the concerns and apprehension I had when I went to the chiropractor for the first time. So we make it a point to explain everything in advance, answer questions and attempt to over communicate. Patients appreciate that.”

Dr. Gerhard is single, and enjoys pretty much anything to do with water (especially scuba diving), as well as working out at the gym three days a week.

He encourages all his patients to begin, and stick with, a regular exercise regimen. Exercising on a regular basis is probably the single most important thing someone can do to improve his or her health.

Dr. Brad Asks some important questions of interest to Oakland Park residents - Chiropractor Oakland Park Dr. Brad Asks...

What can a chiropractor do for asthma?
Many people think of chiropractic as exclusively dealing with the spine. But I'm interested in the spine because it covers the nervous system. Problems in the spine can produce problems in the organs and tissues controlled by the affected nerves—including those to the lungs and bronchial tubes. Find out how chiropractic care has helped those with asthma.
How long does it take to form a bone spur?
Many who begin chiropractic care think their problem happened "last week when you bent over funny." But pictures of the spine tell a different story. Chiropractors know it can take your body years to deposit the calcium necessary to form a bone spur. It's your body's response to stress due to gravity or joint malfunction. And chiropractic care can help.
